Meet the Neurology Experts We Added in 2022

As 2022 comes to a close, we wanted to give an overview of the providers we've added throughout the year. Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center continues to grow because the need for neurological care is soaring. Age, stress, trauma (physical, mental, and emotional), genes, diet, movement levels — anything and everything, frankly, can create or contribute to a neurological condition. Furthermore, Arizona ranks as one of the perennially fastest-growing states in the nation. As the population swells, Neurology Associates intends to keep pace with the subsequent demand for neurological care by bringing on more medical experts.

With all of that in mind, we’ve enlisted more doctors and practitioners for both our Chandler and Mesa clinics. Meet them virtually here and reach out to us if you feel one of them might make the right fit for you.

Dr. Ming Jai-Liu, Neurologist

Neurology Associates Clinic Location: Mesa

Dr. Ming-Jai Liu, who is Board-Certified, joined Neurology Associates in March 2022. He treats a range of neurological conditions. Dr. Liu earned his medical degree in 2008 from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, then completed an Internal Medicine internship in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He followed that with a fellowship in movement disorders at the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix. During that time, Dr. Liu earned the designation as Fellow of the Evelyn Kossak Movement Disorder Endowment from 2013-2015. Away from the office, Dr. Liu enjoys spending time with his daughter, working out, and taking part in outdoor activities. He speaks English, Mandarin, and Taiwanese fluently.

Dr. Julius Charlie, Neurologist

Neurology Associates Clinic Location: Mesa

(Some patients may recognize Dr. Charlie from his previous time with Neurology Associates. He came back in summer of 2022 after about a year away, and we are thrilled to have him with us again.)

Julius Charlie, M.D., is a Board-Certified neurologist who earned his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine Internship at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, and returned to the University of New Mexico School of Medicine to complete his Neurology Residency. He has been in practice since 2001. Dr. Charlie is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care for all of his patients.

Arshad Aziz, Certified Physician Assistant

Neurology Associates Clinic Location: Mesa

Arshad Aziz, PA-C, came to Neurology Associates Neuroscience Center in February 2022 with extensive experience in medicine, public health, and academia. A physician assistant specializing in neurology since 2016, Arshad now brings his vast knowledge to Neurology Associates Mesa, where he sees new and follow-up patients. Arshad says he is motivated by a strong passion for medicine and helping people.

“My philosophy and manner are that we owe top-quality care to our patients (and to ourselves). People trust us with their very lives and well-being, and that of their loved ones. I should be competent enough to provide excellent care to my patients.”

Arshad holds three degrees: a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from A.T. Still University; a Master of Public Health from the University of Oklahoma; and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. He worked as an epidemiologist for eight years at the Arizona Department of Health Services.

In his spare time, Arshad enjoys reading, gardening, and spending time with family.

Jeannette Baker, Credentialed Nurse Practitioner

Neurology Associates Clinic Location: Chandler

Jeannette (Jean) Baker, credentialed nurse practitioner, joined Neurology Associates in March 2022 with thirty years’ medical experience. Since 2012, Jean has focused on movement disorders; most of her patients have dealt with Parkinson’s disease.

Jean brings this expertise to patients at Neurology Associates Mesa, where she aims to make patients and their families as comfortable as possible.

“I want my patients to feel like I can help them navigate the complex world of health care,” she says. “I want them to feel confident that they have someone in their corner.”

To that end, Jean works with patients and their loved ones to give them as much information about medications and other treatments as she can, so they can make the decisions best for them.

Jean moved to Arizona from Vermont, where she lived for more than two decades, in early 2022. She has two grown children and a dog. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and volunteering at animal shelters.

Jean is a member of the International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society.

Amanda Canizales, Family Nurse Practitioner

Neurology Associates Clinic Location: Mesa

Amanda Canizales, family nurse practitioner, joined Neurology Associates in June 2022 with more than a decade of nursing experience in diverse settings. At Neurology Associates, Amanda sees follow-up patients and has a particular soft spot for people living with ALS.

“I have worked as an ALS clinic nurse and fell in love with ALS patients,” Amanda says. “I know it is on the rare side to see in clinic but that is one of my true passions.”

Of course, regardless of a patient’s condition, Amanda aims to help people feel their best and achieve better quality of life.

“I love when I get to see patients improve with their condition, whether that be with the help of medication, injections, or a multidisciplinary approach,” she says.

Amanda earned her Master of Science in Nursing at Northern Arizona University. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from NAU as well. Amanda is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

In her spare time, Amanda enjoys running (she has many half-marathons under her belt), hiking, and mountain biking. She and her husband have two dogs and a cat.
